Should you accept crypto payments?
See what Coinbase Commerce, BitPay or Stripe stablecoin payments cost per order, and how much you save compared with card processing.
What crypto payments cost merchants
Crypto processors charge a percentage of each order, usually lower than card fees. Common US rates:
- Coinbase Commerce: 1% per payment.
- BitPay: from 1% plus $0.25, with higher tiers up to about 2% depending on volume and plan.
- Stripe stablecoin payments: 1.5% for USDC payments, settled to your Stripe balance in dollars.
- Card payments for comparison: about 2.9% plus $0.30 per order.
Should you add it?
Crypto checkout saves roughly 1.5% to 2% per order and has no chargebacks, but few shoppers use it. It works best as an extra payment option for higher-priced items and international buyers, not as a replacement for cards.
Worked example
On a sale where you receive $100.00, Crypto Payments fees come to $1.00 (1.0% of the sale). After $47.00 in product, shipping and packaging costs, you keep $52.00, a 52% margin. These are the calculator's starting numbers, so you can change any of them above.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| You receive | $100.00 |
